Steel Building Frame

A steel building frame comes in three basic types, clear span frames which have no interior supports or pillars, modular frames which have interior pillars, and single slope frames with sloping roofs. There are of course many variations and new designs seem to pop up every day but these are the basic ones.

A clear span steel building frame is the most versatile for smaller applications (under 80’) and allows complete freedom for the interior. It could be a horse track, office complex, ice skating rink, factory floor or anything that would benefit from an open floor plan. Walls can be built anywhere and storing large objects is easy. For large areas the cost begins to rise due to the size of beams needed to support the larger span, this also increases the foundation requirements.

A modular frame or single slope steel building frame can be built to any size much more cost effectively than a clear span frame but requires interior pillars in the design. This greatly decreases the amount of material needed to support the roof, but can be impractical for certain applications. A sloping roof is useful in areas with severe weather and snowfall.
